How to build your team in Genshin Impact

Creating your team is something very important in Genshin Impact. This makes it possible to combine the elemental skills of different characters, but also to provide combinations between the different elements. But it is not always easy to know who to put in its final composition, especially when one was unlucky during the Vows. How do you create a viable team from scratch?

Choose your DPS, the center of the team

Before trying to get into anything else, it's important to know who will be the heart of the team, the shining star. This key character must necessarily be able to type correctly, either with his elemental skill or his basic attacks. Claymore wielders (two-handed sword) are therefore to be preferred, even if it is quite possible to use any character as DPS. We recommend a few characters for this role.

  • Dilute
  • keqing
  • Mona
  • chongyun
  • Razor
  • Beidou
  • fischl
  • xiangling
  • Traveler (Anemo)

From this first character designated as the center of the team will depend the rest of the composition. And the next step is to assign him a companion, a second main character for your team.

Who to accompany the DPS?

This choice is just as crucial as your DPS choice. This second character should be chosen for what he brings to the first, whether through his elemental skill or his combat style. We therefore generally seek to favor a character who fights with a fast weapon like a sword, catalyst or bow. The element of his Divine Eye is not important, although some elemental reactions can help you decide between two characters.

But this second character also has the particularity of being a second DPS above all. Characters like Barbara or Qiqi are therefore to be avoided, their damage being too low. Also avoid characters whose elevation materials are the same as your main character, or who uses the same style of weapon. Then all you have to do is finish your team on Genshin Impact by choosing the last two holders.

Elemental Resonance and Healer

The last choices to be made for the team come: that of the healer and the elementary resonance. These choices are not incompatible. The goal is to combine the same element twice in the team to enjoy a better bonus. We note in particular that double Pyro, Cryo and Electro are the most offensive bonuses, and therefore those to be preferred. It is therefore quite possible to choose a healer who will complete this, such as Qiqi for example if you have Chongyun as DPS. If it is not the healer who comes to unblock this resonance, then it will be the role of the last character, who will often only be present for that.

When and how to choose its composition?

Whether it's the Spiraling Depths or the bosses, you're definitely not going to use the same characters. It is therefore for adapt to your different activities that you can create several teams and rework them according to your fights. If you plan to attack the Flaming Tree you are not going to go headlong with a Pyro composition, but rather a Cryo. Some floors of the Spiraling Depths benefit an element, which is therefore to be preferred.

Below is an example to illustrate this guide and help you build your team on Genshin Impact. In the latter I reached adventure level 20, unlocked all the free characters, but also made enough summons to get very lucky Keqing, Chongyun and Fischl.

With these characters at my disposal I can already see 3 teams, each of a different element, and each serving me in different situations. For my exploration I noticed that I often need the Pyro and Electro element for various activities. So I decide to take Xiangling as the main DPS, and accompany him with Amber to Pyro resonance. Here I am with 25% more attack and two characters. I add Barbara, to have a little healing, and Lisa who reacts better with the skills of her allies.

If I want to dedicate myself to boss fights, I will then favor Chongyun in DPS, accompanied by Fischl. Kaeya s’impose to unlock the critical bonus of the double Cryo, and once again it's Barbara who comes to help with the healing. I can then alternate with Keqing in DPS, always accompanied by Fischl. Barbara remains present for treatment, but it is Xiangling who closes the composition for her Divine Eye.
