Find out here all the details about the 4-1-2-1-2 (2) formation with tactics and instructions for FIFA 22 FUT mode. This custom tactics guide will be kept up to date for the formation listed, depending on the FIFA patches and updates. The goal is to present you with complete tactics for a Meta formation to play in Rivals and FUT Champions.
The advantages of 4-1-2-1-2 (2) are quite numerous since this tactic is strong in attack without reducing the defense to nothing. Indeed, via a dense medium, this formation will easily create play and build via quick passes. Thus, it will be possible to play on the depth and punish a player who moves his central defenders but also to play on distance shots. In addition, with 4 midfielders, you will be able to regularly recover the ball on your opponent's raises, nipping their counter-attacks in the bud.
For once, this training is master key, it is possible to play it at the start of the match, when you are leading in the score but also when you are trailing. The ability to move the ball around in midfield avoids some counter-attacks while the density of players in the middle makes it easy to build your game.
In addition, this tactic is very effective if your opponent goes into full offensive mode since your three attackers will stay in front, quickly creating situations of overload on the counter-attack if his full-backs go up.
On the other hand, if your opponent is playing ultra defensively, it is probably more effective to switch to a 4-4-2, 3-5-2 or any other formation with players on the wings.
You can play with the defensive style "pressing after a loss of ball" if you are used to the spaces created by this option, but we recommend activating it when you are behind in the score.
On the offensive point, “quick building” is also playable when your opponent tends to throw in defensively. Calls will be shorter but more numerous.
Here are our instructions for each player within this formation. When an instruction is not listed, the default instruction is to be used.
- Goalkeeper: Gets on crosses and Balanced
- DC: Default
- DG and DD: Stay behind in attack, Overrunning race type
Note: if you're ever used to having a rising full-back, favor a player with a lot of stamina and the ability to create play in attack to activate the Join Attack option.
- CAM: Stay ahead, In the box
- Defensive Central Midfielder: Cut Pass Lines, Distance Between Defenders, and Cover Cross
- Right midfield: Stay on the edge of the box, Cover center
- Left midfield: Stay on the edge of the box, Cover center
Note: the defensive central midfielder is your overall midfielder with the best combo of interception, aggression, physicality and defensive placement. The MOC is generally a BU or AT, capable of scoring but also of distributing the ball. You can check out our list of the best forwards in FUT for MOC/AT examples.
- Scorer 1: Stay central, Behind the defense, Stay in front
- Scorer 2: Stay central, Behind the defense, Stay in front
Note: Here, the MOC will serve as a pivot for your two forwards, so favor quick and dexterous players in front of goal. In addition, the level of the pass will be a little less important since the proximity between the players will be less than on a lot of formations.
Defensively, the main point concerns the wingers. If you are lucky enough to have a player like Ferland Mendy, Théo Hernandez or even Hakimi, do not hesitate to activate the balanced attack and overflow option for the type of race. The idea will be to have an extra player in front, who will draw a defensive player onto him, creating more space in attack.
Be careful because in addition to also creating more space in defense on your side, this player will tend to run a lot during the match. So plan a substitution or manually remove this tactic if you are leading.
In midfield, you can look for two box-to-box midfielders (see our list of the best midfielders in FIFA 22) that will be complete. This way, they will be able to defend and attack, serving as a first defensive curtain when you lose the ball on offense. The MDC must be very good in interception to have a good impact in your game.
The MOC will need to have a good shot from distance, with attackers able to get the ball back to him if no space is available. In terms of goalscorers, a traditional profile is sufficient: we will therefore look for speed if you are looking to play on the counter-attack. On the other hand, if your style of play is more laid back, the proximity between the cards makes it possible to use slower but more physical players, such as Lewandowski, Benzema POTM or Ronaldo.
