Find out here all the details about the 4-4-2 formation with tactics and instructions for FIFA 22 FUT mode. This custom tactics guide will be kept up to date for the formation listed, depending on FIFA patches and updates . The goal is to present you with complete tactics for a Meta formation to play in Rivals and FUT Champions.
The advantages of 4-4-2 are quite numerous since this tactic is strong in attack without reducing the defense to nothing. Indeed, through a dense midfield and options on the wings, this formation will easily create play and build. Thus, it will be possible to play on crosses via two wingers (and potentially a rising side) but also to play on distance shots as well as being able to build in the center on your scorers.
For once, this training is master key, it is possible to play it at the start of the match, when you are leading in the score but also when you are trailing. The space taken up in attack allows you to stretch your opponent's defense but also to easily circulate the ball, advantages when you are leading but also when you are behind in the score.
You can play with the defensive style "pressing after a loss of ball" if you are used to the spaces created by this option, but we recommend activating it when you are behind in the score.
On the offensive point, "long ball" is also playable when you suffer a little from your opponent's game but you are looking to play on the counter-attack.
Here are our instructions for each player within this formation. When an instruction is not listed, the default instruction is to be used.
- Goalkeeper: Gets on crosses and balanced
- DC: Default
- DG and DD: Stay behind in attack, the rest by default
Footnotes : if you are used to having a full-back that goes up, favor a player with a lot of stamina and the ability to create play in attack to activate the overflow type of run.
- Most attacking central midfielder: Moving up, In the box and defensive position: Cover cross
- Defensive central midfielder: Stay behind in attack, stay on the edge of the box, and defensive position: cover center
- Right winger: Come back in defence, In the back of the defence, In the box
- Left winger: Come back in defense, Behind the defense, In the box
Footnotes : Defensive central midfielder is overall your midfielder with the best combo of interception, aggression, physicality and defensive placement. Conversely, the more attacking midfielder must be around 80+ in shooting, quite agile and a good passer.
- Goalscorer 1: Stay central, Behind the defense, Return to defense
- Goalscorer 2: Stay central, Return to defense
Footnotes : Goalscorer 1 is usually the fastest and most agile in front of goal, while the second can serve a little in number 10 or pivot mode. The latter will therefore have to be a better passer (to serve Goalscorer 1) or/and have a fine shot to be able to surprise your opponent from a distance.
Defensively, the main point concerns the wingers. If you are lucky enough to have a player like Ferland Mendy, Théo Hernandez or even Hakimi, do not hesitate to activate the balanced attack and overflow option for the type of race. The idea will be to have an extra player in front, who will draw a defensive player onto him, creating more space in attack.
Be careful because in addition to also creating more space in defense on your side, this player will tend to run a lot during the match. So plan a substitution or manually remove this tactic if you are leading.
In midfield, wing players need to be quick but also able to cross. The pass level is therefore quite important. Having a player with a finesse shot is a plus, allowing him to dive into the center to attempt a long shot.
In terms of goalscorers, a slightly taller player capable of heading the ball is a plus. Other Meta players like Ginola also impose themselves very well on crosses via volleys that are sometimes quite glitchy.
