List of best midfielders for FUT on FIFA 23

We list here the best players, the midfield cards, according to their ideal position in play and not their position. Thus, a player with an MC position but no longer Meta in MDC, will be listed among the best defensive midfielders in FIFA 23 rather than in MC.

The best defensive midfielders in FIFA 23

Generally, defensive midfielders must have a good physique, decent agility but also high defensive performance, even if it means having average or even low offensive performance.

Jude Bellingham TOTS, Borussia Dortmund, Bundesliga

One of the very best cards in the game, simple. Jude Bellingham TOTS is playable everywhere but his ideal position is considered to be MDC. For what ? The English player is very physical in his way of playing with great aggressiveness in his interventions. His size (long enough without being too tall) combined with his incredible stats and his 4-5 star rating make him the absolute weapon among midfielders and one of the very best players in FIFA 23. Note that the use Pillar style is a must, allowing you to put your defensive stats to the max. If the TOTS is really a great card, the TOTY is no exception and remains one of the best players we have tried this year.

Best Meta FUT Players List, FIFA 23 Midfield Cards
Jude Bellingham's amazing TOTS map.

Recommended Style: Pillar

N'Golo Kanté FUT Birthday, Chelsea, Premier League

Although less prominent at the start of the FUT season due to major nerfs to its Gold version, N'Golo Kanté returned to center stage with its WW card. Therefore, the arrival of a new special card was eagerly awaited. Despite a very weak boost (concretely +1 everywhere), the French player also gains in stars with now a very good 3-5. This helps on raises and kicking Kanté, his main weakness. We are therefore on a Kanté as we like them, like his TOTY cards from previous years: a small but agile player, omnipresent in defense, who makes the difference on his positioning more than on his tackles. To be used preferably with another larger defensive MDC/MC, like Vieira or Rabiot.

Recommended Style: Shadow or Pillar or even Catalyst

Khéphren Thuram TOTS, OGC Nice, Ligue 1

We're going to be very frank, we're a little tired of seeing cards get limited boots while the same players get +4 without any explanation. Here, Thuram TOTS is very close to its Future Stars since the +2 looks like that of a TOTW. However, be careful, because his FS was already incredible and this TOTS is very clearly one of the best defensive midfielders in FIFA 23. It must be said that all the potential that we had glimpsed in his TOTW and which had been confirmed in the Future Stars, finds itself highlighted here. At 1m, Thuram brings a huge defensive presence with big legs that help intercept the ball. Better still, his strength (with Pillar for Lengthy) and his defensive stats make him a very good duel player. Despite the 92-3 and the absence of a trait, Thuram TOTS is a real Meta card, which will shine both in solo MDC and in duos with a smaller player.

Recommended Style: Pillar (next-gen) or Shadow

Joshua Kimmich TOTS, Bayern Munich, Bundesliga

Kimmich TOTS falls into the category of fairly agile MDCs, which stand out for their mobility and fluidity in defense. Indeed, the German midfielder is much closer to a Kanté than a Thuram TOTS with 1m77 and an average physique in play. This size combined with his stats in dribbling (92) make it possible to obtain a very fluid player who will be ideally used with a more powerful MDC. Another advantage of the Bayern player is his passing game, which allows excellent raises. Note that in addition to a good boost to his stats, Kimmich TOTS now has a high/high yield, which further improves his interest defensively. So we have here an extremely complete card which could even evolve in box-to-box depending on your training.

Recommended Style: Pillar or Ombre

Moises Caicedo TOTS Moments, Brighton, Premier League

No traits, high/high output, controlled running style, but what makes Caicedo TOTS Moments so high in our rankings? As often, the stats do not tell everything and the Brighton player is clearly one of the best defensive midfielders in FIFA 23. Why? Caicedo is a kind of Kanté: a relatively small physique (for the position), excellent acceleration and good agility. The formatting of its stats gives it that ubiquitous side that we like in MDCs of this type, which impose themselves by their positioning more than by force. If you suspect that many players will choose the pack instead, Caicedo TOTS Moments is clearly a good choice if you play with a Premier League formation.

Recommended Style: Pillar or Ombre

Federico Valverde TOTY MH, Real Madrid, La Liga

We hesitated for a long time to place Valverde in the MDC category as the player of excellence in all positions in the midfield. However, very few (non-icon) cards have struck us as effective as the Real Madrid player in a defensive midfield role. While its RTTK was potentially still a little more box-to-box than MDC, the gain in physics of the TOTY MH further accentuates its effectiveness in duels. Note that the TOTW versions are very effective from the perspective of a cheap team, especially the 88.

Recommended Style: Pillar or Architect (next-gen)

Rafael Marquez FUT Heroes Fantasy, MLS

If the basic version was honestly very generic, especially for a DC, the World Cup version of Rafael Marquez FUT Heroes turned out to be Meta. Based on this experience with this map, we were eager to try this Fantasy. Although aligned in DC, Marquez is clearly a die-hard MDC. What strikes us the most with him is his physical impact: the Mexican is omnipresent and he does not hesitate to be aggressive in his duels. This is explained by the presence of the sliding tackle trait but also by a good level of aggressiveness and strength. In the end, if the league (MLS) limits its interest a little, the DC position allows a lot of flexibility in its use.

Recommended Style: Ombre or Pillar

Adrien Rabiot FUT Birthday, Juventus, Serie A

While the WC Stories version was considered a kind of box-to-box MC, Rabiot FUT Birthday is clearly an MDC. What made us change our minds is its imposing size, which allows extremely effective defensive animations. Thus, with his 93 meter, the French player is the ideal option to support a smaller MDC Kanté way. Note that even with a lack of aggressiveness and defensive lucidity, Rabiot FUT Birthday seems to compensate with his defensive animations. However, these weaknesses and the average defensive performance limit its use in single MDC. In the end, a really good card which despite some weaknesses, is extremely effective in the midfield.

Recommended Style: Ombre or Pillar

Straw TOTS, Fulham, Premier League

Automatique ! That's it, Palhinha TOTS is the very example of this MDC that you place in your defense to play for you. Worse, it's the ideal card to play DC in the center of a 5-man defense (we don't condone this rat tactic!). It must be said that the Portuguese has two major assets: a great physical presence (large size + high physical stats) and above all an excellent defensive AI. Another advantage lies in the running style which is by default, in Lengthy, which makes it possible to use Shadow and thus, compensate a little for its lack of speed. If his PTG was already underrated, this TOTS obtained via objectives is clearly undervalued by the majority of FUT players. A 92 or 93 version in the packs would undoubtedly be in all FUT Champ formations.

Recommended Style: Ombre

Ismael Bennacer TOTS, Milan AC, Serie A

Like his RTTK and Fantasy versions, Bennacer TOTS is a fairly rare defensive midfielder in FIFA. Indeed, thanks to an ideal physics in play, the latter is really agile, favoring manual use. In addition, the AC Milan player is fast and a good passer, making him an ideal option for those who like to actively play their MDCs. If his defensive performance (average) is not ideal, the latter is a good complement to a more physical MDC like Vieira or Thuram thanks to its great fluidity. It is therefore recommended to use it in a formation with two MDC, maintaining its explosive running style via Shadow rather than Pillar.

Recommended style: Shadow (for explosive) or Pillar (more in current-gen)

Mattéo Guendouzi FUT Birthday, OM, Ligue 1

After a very good WC Phenomena version (although slightly overrated) Guendouzi is again in many teams thanks to his FUT Birthday. The Marseille player is one of the best defensive midfielders in FIFA 23 thanks to his 5 stars from weak foot (the 5-4 version is less interesting) and good defensive stats (defense and physical). In addition, like all players with specific haircuts, he has a certain je ne sais quoi that makes him particularly effective in play (kidding aside, his medium/high output is ideal for a good defensive presence). On the other hand, at this stage of the game, it is considered that a pure MDC must either be small and agile like Kanté, or else a bigger physique to win in a duel. On this point, Guendouzi is comparable to Bellingham, but the English player is taller and his stats are much better on the TOTY. Especially since this FUT Birthday cannot be Lengthy in next-gen.

Recommended Style: Ombre

Manuel Locatelli Showdown, Juventus, Serie A

What a monster! The DCE Locatelli Showdown is clearly the kind of nugget that will be remembered throughout the FUT season. With very good stats, a medium/high yield, 4 stars of weak foot and above all a good height (1m85), the Italian player is an almost perfect MDC. Thus, Locatelli is permanently in defense, cutting the passing lines and winning a duel. If he is less physically impressive than a Thuram FS, the Juventus player is nevertheless very complete, including in the ball game.

Recommended Style: Ombre

Casemiro TOTS, Man United, Premier League

Firmly in-game with the arrival of Race Styles this year, Casemiro continues to be a playable option thanks to Lengthy. Here his TOTS continues in the tradition of the TOTT with an excellent defensive presence and a very good sense of the duel. This is explained by excellent defensive stats, a unique physique and the sliding tackles trait. Also, if the former Real Madrid member continues to lack precision in his shots from distance, his shooting power will surprise an opponent who is a bit too passive. So he's not missing much to turn into a monster in the deck, but as it stands the card is a bit limited by his kicking game.

Recommended Style: Ombre

Emre Can Fantasy, Borussia Dortmund, Bundesliga

A particularly intriguing card, Emre Can Fantasy is playable (both in terms of its positions and its profile) in both MDC and DC. With a good height of 1m86, the basic Lengthy style, a medium/high output, the sliding tackle trait and very good defensive stats, the German player is ideal in these two positions. Thus, its two weaknesses lie in the lack of agility and acceleration. For us, the ideal would be to play him in MDC given his presence in midfield and to take advantage of his endurance and his footwork.

Recommended Style: Shadow or even Pillar

Kalvin Phillips RTTF, Man City, Premier League

After a rather interesting Rulebreakers, Phillips returns to the front of the meta with an equally successful RTTF version. If for an inexperienced player the card seems a bit generic, the powerful physique in play and the sliding tackling trait will make the Englishman a true MDC Meta. Note, however, that unlike a lot of purely defensive midfielders, Phillips cannot be used with the Lengthy run unless the Architect style is applied. In the end, we prefer to place Shadow for the gain in speed and defensive stats. Man City could win the UCL, which could secure them several more upgrades.

Recommended Style: Ombre

Seko Flying TOTY MH, RC Lens, League

If the OOP version of Fofana was already a very solid MDC, this new TOTY MH is clearly a big cut above and really reminds us of his POTM from FIFA 22. The RC Lens player immediately stands out as an omnipresent card in the middle of ground. Playable in box-to-box due to high/high yield and comprehensive stats, it is found to be much more effective in MDC. With the Pillar style as with Ombre, the latter is Lengthy, which gives it an even more physical side in its interventions. All in all, though lacking a unique trait or physique, Fofana is a truly special player and one of the very best midfielders in FIFA 23.

Recommended Style: Ombre or Pillar

Josh Brownhill TOTS, Burnley, EFL

We're going to be very blunt, if it wasn't 94 this card would definitely be in the honorable mention section due to its very generic nature. However, with a large total of stats, a high defensive performance and 5 stars of weak foot, Brownhill TOTS is a completely playable option at this stage of the game. Better still, his stats make him a rather pleasant ball player. at the foot, which makes it a very good card to evolve in addition to a larger and physical MDC like Thuram TOTS.

Recommended Style: Ombre or Pillar

Marco Verratti Centurions, PSG, Ligue 1

Like a Kanté, Verratti Centurions is this rather rare type of MDC, who takes advantage of a small physique to intercept the ball. Indeed, while players like Vieira or Rabiot impose themselves by their size, Verratti is illustrated by an incredible agility. Better, his explosive style will help a lot if you manually play your players in defense. So if you're used to using such a card, the PSG player will truly be an amazing MDC in a formation where he's assisted by at least a solid box-to-box or even a three-MC setup. In MDC alone, in a 4-1-2-1-2 for example, Verratti could suffer in particular on the aerial game.

Recommended Style: Pillar or Ombre

Declan Rice TOTS, West Ham, Premier League

After a Centurions version obtained via a somewhat expensive DCE, Declan Rice finds the Meta a bit with this TOTS. Rice is a bit of the typical MDC on FIFA: a fairly large physique, medium/high output and a good combo of defensive and physical stats. In fact, this card is quite effective with good defensive AI. Better, his level of physical stats (endurance, aggressiveness in particular) is quite high while his speed is compensated by being Lengthy. So we have with the Pillar style, a powerful and relatively mobile MDC. However, be careful, because Rice is a bit limited at this stage of the game (3-3 in stars, no traits, a medium-footed game) but given his price, he is clearly one of the best cheap defensive midfielders in FIFA 23 .

Recommended Style: Pillar (for Lengthy), Ombre (current gen)

Sandro Tonali WW, Milan AC, Serie A

One of our favorite players for years, Sandro Tonali is establishing himself more and more as one of the best defensive midfielders in FIFA 23. This WW card obtained via Tokens is the prototype of the fairly complete MDC: fast, agile and relatively powerful, the Italian player has everything it takes to be an excellent player. But it's his unique physique and his omnipresence on the field that make him an ideal option in the game. Concretely, he only lacks defensive traits to really become a monster.

Recommended Style: Ombre

Moussa Sissoko Rulebreakers, FC Nantes, League

The prototype of the MDC on FIFA! Powerful, relatively fast and a very good defender, Sissoko RB is clearly a card that illustrates what we generally look for in a defensive midfielder. If his acceleration level is quite low, it is compensated by the Lengthy running style, making him even faster on long runs. Although limited by a 3-3 in stars and a fairly low level of balance, his unique in-game physics compensates a bit for the rigidity of the player.

Recommended Style: Ombre

Denis Zakaria PTG, Chelsea, Premier League

Zakaria is the type of card that we would have loved to be able to test before the patch that nerfed Lengthy since his physique and his stats perfectly match the profile of a defensive MC Lengthy. But don't worry, this PTG card is incredible in a pure defensive midfielder role due to a combo of height (1m91), physicality and reading of the game. Better still, his passing game is clearly very good, which compensates a little for his lack of fluidity with the ball at his feet. Thus, we are in the presence of one of the best defensive midfielders in FIFA 23 in a very classic style.

Recommended Style: Ombre

Eduardo Camavinga WC Phenomenes, Real Madrid, La Liga

On paper, Eduardo Camavinga WC Phenomena is not really the ideal MDC: high offensive performance, a very agile physique and no defensive trait. However, the French player is particularly effective in play in a defensive midfield role. His stats are complete but it is above all his flexible physique which in the end allows him to be very agile when you control him. Thus, it is in a formation with two MDCs in duo with a more physical and powerful environment that Camavinga really shines.

Recommended Style: Shadow or even Pillar

Franck Kessie OTW, FC Barcelona, La Liga

As for Valverde, Kessié is absolutely playable in box-to-box as well as in MDC, it all depends on the scheme and the style of play you are going to use. It must be said that the new FC Barcelona player is a rock, with a lot of physique, but his stats are complete enough to make him evolve into a more attacking role. The key element in our choice was its 3 stars of technical gestures, which in our opinion, makes it more of an MDC than a box to box at the highest level. This first boost from the OTW makes it possible to fully justify the price of the DCE while we are now waiting for him to find his place in his new club. Each boost will increase its versatility and effectiveness.

Recommended Style: Ombre

Fernando Fantasy, FC Seville, La Liga

Sometimes the market value of a card does not reflect its ability to play on FUT at all. Thus, Fernando Fantasy is quite effective in MDC despite being three away from the award for best defensive midfielders in FIFA 23. The Brazilian player has an agile physique in play (even with 1m83), good defensive stats and the trait sliding tackles. Also, although his acceleration and agility are limited, Fernando is quite mobile as he benefits from Lengthy even with the Shadow style. Morality, what explains this low price? Overall, Fernando Fantasy has been very present in the packs, the alternatives of La Liga are very numerous and his absence from the fields limits his potential for evolution.

Recommended Style: Ombre

Javier Mascherano FUT Heroes WC, Premier League

Ok so here we are in the presence of a greatly underrated card! If at first glance Mascherano seems like a banal MDC, the reality is quite different. The Argentinian player is a kind of Kanté: a small physique, an ideal defensive position and much better mobility than the stats might suggest. Indeed, with its in-game physics, the card is quite flexible to use, a big plus when you play your MDCs. In addition, his sliding tackles trait will bring a plus in duels despite a relatively average level of strength.

Recommended Style: Ombre

Enzo Fernandez Show WC, Benfica, Liga NOS

If a priori we will soon have cards of Enzo Fernandez from a big league, in the meantime, players must use this version evolving within the Liga NOS. This limitation is the main weakness of this excellent card, playable in MDC or MC box-to-box. For us, Enzo is ideal with Pillar to get a very strong player defensively. Indeed, the role of MDC suits him more because in fact, his offensive stats do not have the expected impact in game. Especially since the card is devoid of offensive traits, further reducing his interest a little to another position than MDC.

Recommended Style: Pillar or Ombre

Quinten Timber Future Stars, Feyenoord, Eredivisie

Having two different versions, we prefer the one originally aligned in MDC. Indeed, it allows use in MDC or even box-to-box thanks to good mobility, high speed and relatively complete defensive stats. If he lacks a little reading of the game in defense, the latter will be a very good player in duo with a slower and larger MDC. Note the good passing game and the 4-4 in stars, making it easy to restart the game forward. Overall a fairly unique card at this stage of the game although a bit niche.

Recommended Style: Ombre or Pillar

Youssouf Fofana Show, AS Monaco, Ligue 1

Fofana is the prototype of the MDC on FIFA: medium/high performance, excellent defensive stats, good physique and decent speed. In game, the French player is nothing special but his efficiency is undeniable. Thus, accompanied by a larger MDC, Fofana will be a kind of Kanté: a relatively agile and complete midfielder, capable of winning his duels and intercepting balls. However, we are still on a fairly generic card, which will be quickly replaced.

Recommended Style: Ombre

Djibril Sow FUT Birthday, Frankfurt, Bundesliga

A card is often referred to as the "prototype" of a position and here, Sow FUT Birthday is the prototype of the cheap but effective MDC. Many pack during the FUT Birthday period, the Swiss player was seen as worthless due to his ubiquity in packs and his links. However in game, Sow FB is clearly a very good MDC due to several elements: a flexible physical in game (which makes him quite fluid despite his size), an ideal medium / high yield, 5 stars of weak foot and defensive stats high. Better, the formatting of its stats allows the use of Pillar to further increase its impact in duels. In the end, without being ultra Meta, Sow Fut Birthday is an excellent cheap option within the Bundesliga.

Recommended Style: Pillar or Ombre

Reece Oxford WW, Augsburg, Bundesliga

Oxford is a bit of the anti Kanté: a great defensive midfielder, powerful, not very agile but who imposes himself in a duel by his physique. The English player is the type of card that many will underestimate. However, his combination of stats, physique and the Lengthy style (with Pillar) make him a great CDM option on FIFA 23. Also, his secondary positions and 4 weak foot stars help a lot in his use.

Recommended Style: Pillar

Merino Rulebreakers, Real Sociedad, La Liga

What a surprise for us since from the first game, we understood the potential of this card. Undervalued upon its arrival on the market, Merino Rulebreakers is a card that we loved to use. Tall but quick (Lengthy) and relatively agile, the Spanish player is above all very strong defensively. With very complete defensive stats and long legs, he looks a bit like a Tchouaméni or a Vieira in play. One of the best defensive midfielders in FIFA 23 for an extremely affordable price, you can't go wrong with Merino RB.

Recommended Style: Ombre or Pillar (for Lengthy)

Honorable Mentions: Scott McTominay Goals (Premier League), Barry Bannan TOTS (EFL 3), Gary Medel Flashback (Serie A), Fabinho WC Star (Premier League), Hamari Traoré OOP (Ligue 1), Ibrahim Sangaré TOTW (Eredivisie), Aurelien Tchouaméni OTW (La Liga), Danielo Pereira WC Star (Ligue 1), Nikolas Nartey Duo Dynamique (Bundesliga), James Milner Centurions (Premier League), Yannick Gerhardt TOTW (Bundesliga), Douglas Luiz TOTW 3 (Premier League), Denzel Dumfries OOP ( Serie A), Winicius Souza Future Stars (La Liga), Alfred Duncan Dynamic Duo (Serie A), Sergio Busquets RTWC (La Liga), Garrido WW (La Liga), Ao Tanaka Dynamic Duo (Bundesliga 2), Ethan Ampadu Dynamic Duo (Serie A), Noble Okello WW (MLS), Sofyan Amrabat TOTT (Serie A), Leandro Paredes Goals (Serie A), William Carvalho Showdown (La Liga), Maximilian Arnold Centurions (Bundesliga), Konraid Laimer (Bundesliga), Andres Guardado WC Star (La Liga), Maxence Caqueret TOTW (Ligue 1), Mark-Anthony Kaye WC Star (MLS), Lucas Robertone Rulebreakers (La Liga), Thomas Delaney WC Star (La Liga), Axel Witsel WC Stories (La Liga ), Ellyes Skhiri PTG (Bundesliga), Facundo Quignon Foundation (MLS), Rodri TOTW (Man City), Pierre-Emile Hojberg TOTW (Premier League), Ruben Neves TOTW (Premier League).

The best box-to-box midfielders in FIFA 23

By Box-to-box, we mean a player capable of doing a bit of everything in midfield: defending, passing, creating play or even scoring. Thus, these cards of the best b2b midfielders in FIFA 23 must have a good performance in play, if possible at least a 4-3 or 3-4 in stars as well as very complete stats.

Kevin De Bruyne TOTY/TOTS, Man City, Premier League

It was difficult to place KDB TOTY because given its price, many will be tempted to use it offensively, in a MOC role. However, if the Gold and TOTW versions are clearly MOCs, this Team of the Year is a much better box-to-box like the WW version. Here, the boost obtained in defense makes Kevin De Bruyne an omnipresent player on the field. Thus, the Belgian can be an excellent support for a pure MDC in a formation with two mediums but also be an MC who rises in a device with three mediums. Powerful, fast but also a good passer and excellent on long shots, KDB TOTY is undoubtedly one of the best midfielders in FIFA 23 until the TOTS period. Regarding the TOTS version, this one is better defensively but a little below on the rest. Thus, we recommend using the TOTY if you plan to take advantage of KDB's leg to score from a distance and the TOTS if you prefer to keep him in a second MDC role. Note that his WW card remains playable in a box-to-box role although his defensive contribution will be a little less good.

Recommended Style: Ombre

Yaya Touré FUT Heroes Trophy Titans, Premier League

So we know that the placement of Yaya Touré in box-to-box surprises a lot of players but it is ultimately relatively logical. If in a formation with two or three midfielders, Touré can be used purely on the defensive level, we consider that being the only MDC in a diamond formation is not an ideal position for him. Better, his defensive lucidity and his performance suggest that he is rather a box-to-box. Finally, his shooting qualities (and his outer line of the foot) would be wasted in pure MDC. So yes, he is playable in a purely defensive role but like a Gullit, we recommend using him box-to-box in order to maximize his presence on the field, especially given his excessive price.

Recommended Style: Ombre

Luka Modric TOTY, Real Madrid, La Liga

While for a few years his lack of speed has limited his interest in the Meta, the current gameplay has made Loka Modric extremely interesting. Better, this TOTY version makes it possible to erase all the weaknesses of the old special cards. From now on, the Croatian player is much more than a fluid midfielder and a good passer. On the field, the latter provides a real offensive solution with long range shots and deadly outsides of the foot (the Hunter style is even usable for a MOC role) while it will also be effective on the defensive level. Indeed, with more physical and stats in defense, Modric TOTY is a real box-to-box despite an average / average performance. In the end, enjoy one of the best midfielders in FIFA 23 in a device with three MCs, allowing it to level up steadily. Note that the TOTW and RTWC versions are now a bit outdated, although they can still bring game to a low budget team.

Recommended style: Shadow (to keep explosive in next-gen), Pillar (in current gen)

Marcos Llorente Fantasy, Atl Madrid, La Liga

Year after year, Marcos Llorente has been one of the best midfielders in the game and that doesn't change on FIFA 23. The Spanish player has been handed a great Fantasy card which makes him a great box-to-box option but also in MDC and DD. It must be said that in addition to his stats, Llorente has three positions (MC, MD and DD) and a flexible physique in play despite being 1m84 tall. This size, which sometimes somewhat limits his ball-to-foot fluidity, makes him very physical in a duel. So we're on a really unique card, which is also one of the very best DDs in FUT. Note that Atlético could still finish their matches without defeat, the potential of the card is therefore still at 93, making him a usable player even at the end of the TOTS period.

Recommended Style: Pillar

Leon Goretzka TOTS Moments, Bayern Munich, Bundesliga

Leon Goretzka is quite a unique player on FIFA due to his unique physique on the game. So either you like it or you don't like it, there is no in between (just like a Koulibaly for example). If we like his rather long and sometimes rigid physique, Goretzka is undoubtedly one of the best box-to-box midfielders in FIFA 23. In addition, he has good physical and defensive stats as well as the sliding tackles trait, allowing to use it in MDC. However, we consider that his offensive stats would be wasted in a purely defensive role, especially since he now has 5 stars as a weak foot. Therefore, we recommend playing him in the center of the field in order to really exploit the full potential of this TOTS Moments version of Goretzka. Note that the RTTF is still largely playable in this period of TOTS.

Recommended style: Eagle Eye (in MC that rises), Shadow (old-gen) or Pillar (to change its sprint style to Lenghty)

Renato Sanchez OTW, PSG, Ligue 1

Renato Sanchez has been a FIFA monster for years. Powerful, fast and complete, the Portuguese player is illustrated by a presence in play rarely equaled. The situation has not changed on FIFA 23 since the Portuguese player has now received a second boost on this OTW version, making him one of the very best midfielders in the game. It must be said that his stats are now extremely complete , allowing him to really be a threat in all aspects of the game. Note that if some prefer to use him in MDC, his exterior line of the foot and his ability to move quickly on the ground indicate without any possible dispute, a box-to-box role. In short, a real monster that could last a long time in the Meta with a boost or two.

Recommended Style: Ombre

Enzo Fernandez Future Stars, Chelsea, Premier League

As hinted in our analysis of his Showdown version, Enzo Fernandez ultimately chose the Premier League, allowing for some great links. EA quickly recognized it with an incredible Future Stars card. The Argentinian player has ultra-complete stats, allowing him to have an impact on the whole field. When playing with Fernandez, you will notice his presence at all times, especially with good ball-to-foot fluidity. Thus, it would be a shame to leave him in MDC, especially since his power strikes are really impressive. Enzo Fernandez Future Stars is clearly the box-to-box prototype and one of the best midfielders in FIFA 23.

Recommended Style: Pillar or Ombre

Karim Benzema WWReal MadridLa Liga

Where to play Benzema WW? That's the multi-million question for a totally unique card in the game. For us, Benzema WW is one of the best box-to-box midfielders (MCs rising) in FIFA 23 and we'll tell you why. With high/high yield, full stats, the ability to evolve into Lengthy and above all, incredible AI (placements, calls) the Ballon d'Or 2022 is always in position to bring something to your attack. Therefore, we recommend placing him in a three-mid formation, in order to let him climb using the central lane. However, if you want to place it in BU, the latter will also be very effective. Conversely, using it in MDC is counterproductive given the price and stats of the card. Style is also a tough choice, with Gunner not bad at getting the Lengthy style which will compensate for his speed, while Shadow or even Engine are viable.

Recommended Style: Gunner, Engine, or Shadow

Best Positions: Rising MC, BU, MOC

Nicolo Barella RTTF, Inter Milan, Serie A

Since we love fluid and agile cards, Barella RTTF is without doubt one of the best box-to-box midfielders in FIFA 23. With a lithe physique and a short stature, the Italian player remains a marvel of agility and of fluidity. Omnipresent on the field (high/high performance), the latter is really capable of evolving in all styles of play (in a trio of MC, second MDC, in addition to the MOC). If for the moment he is only limited by his 3-3 in stars and the absence of the outside line of the foot, a qualification in the semi-finals of the UCL could change that (a boost and 3 new lines) while the reaching the final would give him 5 weak foot stars. Note that its MOTM version is clearly well below this RTTF.

Recommended Style: Shadow (Pillar makes him lose his explosive sprint)

Ilkay Gundogan Moments, Man City, Premier League

If its Moments version seemed generic to us, Gundogan Showdown is clearly a much better card. The German player benefits from a very big boost here (even more following City's victory) compared to his previous special card, making him much faster and more physical. While still lacking in Meta traits, Gundogan Showdown is extremely well rounded due to its stats and 4-4 star rating. Besides, his average in-game physique isn't really a problem given his dribbling stats, although we won't compare him to the benchmarks of the genre (Barella RTTF, Modric TOTY). In the end, if the price of the DCE was exorbitant, the card is well playable and complete.

Recommended Style: Shadow, Hunter, or Pillar

Paul Pogba Flashback, Juventus, Serie A

Absent from the field for months, Pogba had not received the attention of EA since the start of the FUT season. However, all that changed recently with the arrival of this Flashback, a few days before its return to the field. Pogba on FIFA 23 remains this unique player, with a long and sturdy physique but 5-4 in stars and quite special animations. Thus, with super complete stats, the French player can be used in both MOC and MDC. However, with a high/medium yield, we would rather recommend a box-to-box or rising MC role, in order to take advantage of his unique style. A very good card, which will be among the best midfielders in FIFA 23 for a long time, although a little strange in game.

Recommended Style: Ombre

Claudio Marchisio FUT Heroes Trophy Titans, Serie A

The cards follow one another and look alike for Claudio Marchisio since his Trophy Titans is totally in line with his World Cup. But that may be the problem with it since when its basic version was released, we were talking about a good but overrated card. Here, given the price of the DCE, our opinion remains the same: the Italian player is good, complete and regular but he does not bring anything magical to the field. Therefore, he is of course one of the best midfielders in FIFA 23 but given the price of his DCE, we consider that it is much more profitable to look elsewhere.

Recommended Style: Pillar or Ombre

Dirk Kuyt FUT Heroes Fantasy, Eredivisie

Like its World Cup version, Dirk Kuyt Fantasy is an all-purpose card, which will however shine more in box-to-box or even in MC which is rising. The Dutch player is indeed a bit limited defensively but makes up for it with comprehensive stats and high/high yield. We would have liked a 4-4 in stars in order to be able to more easily use his offensive stats and his AI, in order to position him a little more on a role of MOC. In the end, a good card but which could be a bit niche depending on the formations, despite the double boost obtained.

Recommended Style: Pillar, Eagle Eye or Engine

Park Ji-sung FUT Heroes Fantasy, Premier League

If some people hesitate a lot between Park and Kuyt, for us the answer is clear: Park! The former Man United player is ubiquitous on the pitch (just like back then) and he's capable of doing everything well. Thus, with the shadow style, we obtain a very fast player, effective in defense as well as in attack with a present at all times thanks to his high/high performance and his endurance. If we regret a little his lack of strength in duels, he remains very agile with the ball despite an average physique in play.

Recommended Style: Ombre

Jude Bellingham WC Phenomena, Borussia, Bundesliga

Bellingham WC Phenomena falls into the fairly complicated spectrum of a card so complete that it could play just about anywhere in midfield. In fact, we prefer him in MC with Shadow because his strength level is a bit low and his offensive stats are too good to keep him behind. However, the English player is totally capable of playing in a formation with two MDCs, knowing that his high/high performance will push him to project himself a little. Note that we really liked his ability to score, a success that is also surprising given his shooting stats, proof that we must always go further than the numbers.

Recommended Style: Ombre

Bruno Guimaraes TOTS, Newcastle, Premier League

We were extremely surprised to appreciate this card so much after finding its FUT Birthday correct but nothing more. Indeed, this FB version was quite strange with 5 GT stars for a player not necessarily well formatted for dribbling. Here, we have a pure box-to-box with a lot of stats in physics, a complete game on foot but above all, a fairly correct fluidity for its size. We are therefore on the ideal complement to a pure and hard MDC like Gattuso FUT Birthday or Kanté, thanks to his ability to restart the game in front via excellent passes and good control of the ball. Better, its links are now rather good with the nation but also Newcastle which has some interesting cards.

Recommended Style: Shadow or Pillar or even Basic

Pedri FUT Birthday, FC Barcelona, La Liga

We're going to be frank, we have trouble with Pedri on FIFA: the Spanish player is very flexible with the ball but still too fragile to really win his duels. Thus, the position of MOC seems to be the most effective but his shooting stats limit his interest beyond a role of pure creator. This notice, published when his WC Phenomenon was released, is still valid for the release of his FUT Birthday. Worse, given the price of the DCE, our finding of a card that is far too expensive is also valid. However, he remains effective in a box-to-box role and he will be able to project himself offensively thanks in particular to his agility and his 4-5 in stars.

Recommended Style: Pillar or Ombre

Marcel Sabitzer Fantasy, Man United, Premier League

Sabitzer Fantasy is the very example of the medium that knows how to do everything on FIFA. With 4-4 in stars, the outer trait of the foot, and a high/high output, the card is an ideal base for box-to-box play. Also, his stats are extremely comprehensive, with mid-80+ in all departments, even before upgrades. Here, the Manchester United player has already benefited from two boots and could get a third. Given his stats, Sabitzer is excellent in box-to-box but also in MC which rises or even second MDC for your team until the TOTS period.

Recommended Style: Ombre

Joao Cancelo Out of Position, Man City, Premier League

We hesitated for a long time on the ideal position of Cancelo OOP: MOC? CDM? MC? In the end we consider that box-to-box is the best role to really take advantage of his talent. Joao Cancelo is incredible both offensively and defensively with a presence in midfield rarely equaled. In addition, his passes (with or without the outside of the foot) allow you to unlock complicated situations (yes, all those Meta Rats in park the bus) in a flash of genius. In the end, Touré is slightly ahead since we find him better in the finishing aspect but Cancelo is really a marvel and one of the very best midfielders in FIFA 23.

Recommended Style: Pillar

Raphaël Guerreiro POTM, Borussia, Bundesliga

We often talk about small Kanté-style MDCs but rarely box-to-box. However, smaller players can bring a lot in specific devices. Thus, cards like Lemar, Pedri or even Matthaus compensate for a small physique with greater mobility and a high intensity on the ground. Guerreiro is in this line with excellent mobility via excellent physics in play, good speed (Explosive style) but also great shots from a distance. The Portuguese player is therefore an ideal option in a three MC system, with also the possibility of playing as a piston on the wing or even in DG if necessary.

Recommended Style: Shadow or Pillar or even Basic

Tahith Chong TOTS Moments, Birmingham, EFL

“What this fodder is playable? ". Yes, like a lot of objective cards, Chong TOTS Moments must have ended up in a lot of DCEs without even being tested by players. However, we consider this to be a serious mistake since a lot of cheap formations could use a box-to-box as complete as Chong. The Dutchman offers a fairly correct size, an ideal yield and 4-4 stars to take full advantage of his very complete stats. So, without being a monster, Chong TOTS Moments is a solid option even at 1 or XNUMX chemistry points in a pure box-to-box MC role.

Recommended Style: Ombre or Pillar

Gavi Future Stars, FC Barcelone, La Liga

Like his teammate Pedri or Fabio Vieira FS, Gavi Future Stars is a fairly difficult card to position on the ground. Quick, agile and fluid with the ball, the Spaniard is not a MOC given the rest of his attacking stats. Conversely, if its performance is ideal for a box-to-box (high/high), the lack of strength and aggressiveness will hinder its impact in defense. We are here again on a card with a hybrid pey, to be used in MC which goes up in a device with three MCs. Note, however, the sliding tackles trait which helps a lot on the defensive level with fairly regular automatic interventions.

Recommended Style: Pillar, Shadow, or Hunter

Nicolo Rovella Future Stars, Monza, Serie A

Although lacking a high/high yield and trait, Nicolo Rovella FS is a true box-to-box playable card. The Italian player has excellent stats (especially defensively), a flexible physique in play as well as a 4-4 star rating. Also, his punching power is incredible, although his consistency is quite limited by a low finishing score. Therefore, it will be quite effective in a medium with three MCs in pure box-to-box or even in addition to a pure MDC, although its performance somewhat limits its defensive contribution.

Recommended Style: Pillar or Ombre

Vitinha Future Stars, PSG, Ligue 1

Just arrived at PSG and already a special card that makes him one of the best midfielders in FIFA 23! Vitinha is a very good box-to-box, very complete, which stands out above all for its fluidity. It must be said that with a small size, an ideal physique in play and a lot of agility, the middle is really very flexible. Better, his defensive stats are more than correct, allowing him to easily support a pure MDC as well as to evolve in a device with three MCs. Beware, however, of his first touches of the ball which are sometimes a little rigid, due to a relatively weak score in reaction. Note that his TOTW card is clearly a Fodder next to it due to a rather flagrant lack of strength.

Recommended style: Shadow (to keep explosive) or Pillar (in current-gen)

Bruno Fernandes WC Stories, Man United, Premier League

Although having a rather limited defensive level and a main position in MOC, Bruno Fernandes WC Star is for us, the prototype of MC box-to-box. Indeed, the Portuguese player has all the assets to excel in this position: a high/high yield, a unique physique that tends to be very good in duels and very complete stats. Thus, the Man United player will be ideal in a three-midfield formation, where he rises a little in order to create play or shoot from distance. Note that it is totally possible to make it evolve in MOC but its high defensive performance will push it back down to the field. Its MOTM version is correct, rather cheap but a little worse than this WC Stories.

Recommended Style: Ombre

Frenkie de Jong PTG, FC Barcelona, La Liga

Wow what a card for Frenkie de Jong. This Path to Glory version remains in the continuity of its Gold card: a very mobile, very complete player, who shines at all levels of the game even if his finish is still a little limited. Indeed, if his defensive performance would have been high, then we would probably have placed the Dutch player in the MDC part. However, he is considered to be more effective in a second midfield role, one that rises and projects himself in attack, than in a purely defensive situation. This choice is also explained by his offensive traits (outside of the foot, finesse shot) which somewhat compensate for his limited offensive stats. A real treat in a dense midfield, where he can fully shine. Note that his TOTW card is a good notch below and purely Fodder.

Recommended Style: Pillar or Ombre

Fabio Vieira Future Stars, Arsenal, Premier League

A very complicated card to evaluate, Fabio Vieira Future Stars is more of a rising MC or even a MOC than a true box-to-box. The Portuguese player has excellent in-game physicality, high/medium output and very good offensive stats which makes him viable in OMC. However, his balance and even his agility are a bit limited to really evolve in attack. Conversely, his strength, his aggressiveness and his defensive stats are a little low to be a real B2B. So an MC position that rises in a three MC formation seems to make the most sense to him.

Recommended style: Shadow or Hunter or even Pillar (in current-gen)

Thiago Rulebreakers, Liverpool, Premier League

Considered by some to be a MOC, Thiago Rulebreakers is clearly box-to-box in our eyes. Although a little less agile than expected (an average physique in play), Thiago compensates with extreme speed (with the Shadow style), excellent passing accuracy and great presence on the pitch. Even with average/average yield, the latter will be everywhere on the lawn. Note its Meta traits, including the outside of the foot, which compensates for its 3 weak foot stars. A real beautiful card as we love them!

Recommended Style: Shadow (Pillar loses sprint style)

Fred Centurions, Man United, Premier League

Played by some in MDC, we consider Fred Centurions to be a hybrid between a box-to-box and an MDC. Thus, it is difficult to place it purely in MDC due to a lack of physical presence. On the other hand, his small size and his agility make him an excellent b2b MC in support of a more physical and less agile MDC (Vieira style, Sissoko RB), in order to create a relay between defense and attack. In addition, this relay position is supported by an excellent passing game and great speed. So Fred is a very interesting but potentially niche option, as he won't go with every MDC (Verratti and Kanté needing someone more physical on their side).

Recommended Style: Pillar

Joelinton TOTS, Newcastle, Premier League

As often with objective maps, Joelinton TOTS is a bit generic. However, in use, we obtain a very solid card from the perspective of a rather defensive box-to-box. Indeed, his rather special physique in play brings a relatively effective physical presence in defense. In addition, if his flexibility leaves something to be desired, the Brazilian player is still quite correct given his size. Finally, in Lengthy, Joelinton TOTS finds himself to be very effective in his defensive returns. A rather solid card in the end, which would be much more present in the teams if the TOTS players of the Premier League had not been so easy to pack (in particular Casemiro) this season.

Recommended Style: Pillar (for Lengthy) otherwise Ombre

Jorginho Flashback, Arsenal, Premier League

The Flashback version of Jorginho is quite strange since he mixes a lot of elements specific to the role of MDC and that of rising MC. Indeed, with an ideal physique in play and an excellent passing game, the Italian player would seem rather oriented pure MC which is rising or even MOC. However, its medium/high yield and its defensive stats make it more of an MDC. After our tests, Jorginho Flashback turns out to be a rather box-to-box hybrid, who will need a fairly dense midfield to shine. A solid card, complete, but which will not have the same lifespan as a Pogba Flashback yet available during the same period.

Recommended Style: Shadow (Pillar makes him lose his explosive sprint)

Carlos Soler Showdown, PSG, Ligue 1

Like Dani Ceballos Showdown, Carlos Soler Show is also a very classic box-to-box. Soler is a bit of the prototype of the MC to the point of being a bit generic. However, its effectiveness is undeniable with in particular 5 stars of weak foot and a very good level ball with the foot. So we really appreciated his bass game while his dribbling stats compensate for his average physique in play. In addition, his links are excellent, making it easy to integrate him into a FUT formation.

Recommended Style: Ombre

Fabian Fantasy, PSG, Ligue 1

Funny enough, the two PSG teammates Fabian and Soler obtained a very similar special card in relatively close timing. Indeed, Fabian is also a box-to-box although his stats are formatted differently. We therefore find a player who is quite tall but with good stats in dribbling, who still lacks the physical stats to be a real MDC. From then on, the choice is quickly made and our tests confirmed that Fabian Fantasy was much more a box-to-box than a real defensive midfielder. However, like a FUT Birthday Rabiot, its large size will improve its impact on the defensive plan and allow it to evolve as support for a real MDC.

Recommended Style: Ombre or Pillar

Tony Kroos WW, Real Madrid, La Liga

The prototype of the rising MC is him. With full stats, 5-5 stars, and great links, Tony Kroos WW has it all. The German midfielder is indeed the epitome of the MC who will have an impact on the offensive and defensive plan, due to good stats in shooting, passing and defense. However, his average/medium performance will somewhat limit his presence, as will his lack of stamina, aggressiveness and agility. We are therefore on a very good box-to-box but in a formation with three midfielders.

Recommended Style: Ombre

Donny Van de Beek Moments, Man United, Premier League

Like a lot of cards obtained via objectives, Van de Beek Moments is the type of player that few people really use. However, the Dutch player is far from being a fodder. With a unique in-game physique and strong stats, he's clearly more than a generic box-to-box MC. Better still, his high offensive performance and his exterior line of the foot allow him to have a good offensive impact. Although he is limited by his 3-3 stars, the Man United midfielder is really interesting for anyone new to FUT.

Recommended Style: Ombre or Pillar

Nicolas De la Cruz Goals, River Plate, LIB

So often objective cards are used in DCE by most players, De la Cruz is indeed a Meta option. With a tiny nimble physique and comprehensive offensive stats, one would have thought the Uruguayan player was going to be an MOC. However, with a high/high yield and rather decent defensive stats, the latter also shines in box-to-box. Better still, his aggressiveness and his defensive AI make him a rather effective defensive option. Thus, in a device with three MCs, De la Cruz will be this omnipresent player, able to assist an MDC or to relaunch the game towards the attack.

Recommended Style: Ombre or Pillar

Sergi Darder Fantasy, RCD Espanyol, La Liga

As mentioned several times in this list of the best midfielders in FIFA 23, La Liga is awash with playable options. For some rather strange reason, EA really seems to want to make it an MC/MDC tank which also tends to look alike. Thus, Darder Fantasy is a Meta option but little known since it appeared in a context where many options were already present. In addition, the club's results limit its development potential. However, the Spanish player is particularly solid in a box-to-box role or even a rising MC given his profile. It must be said that with an ideal physique in play, fine line shooting and good offensive stats, the latter could even evolve with Eye of the Lynx.

Recommended Style: Shadow or Pillar or even Eagle Eye

Dani CeballosShowdownReal MadridLa Liga

Getting a good box-to-box midfield usually requires high/high yield, full stats, and if possible at least a 4-4 star. Dani Ceballos has all that plus a flexible physique in play which helps him a lot with the ball. Morality, without being extraordinary, the Spanish player is rather efficient and complete. We are therefore on a playable option for a while, which will allow excellent links via the nation and club, without being the kind of card that you will remember for a long time.

Recommended Style: Ombre

Thomas Lemar RTTK, Atlético Madrid, La Liga

Who doesn't have Lemar RTTK pack? It seems that EA wanted to give this card as a gift to all those who farm a little FIFA 23! The latter must consider themselves lucky as the French player is fun to play. Although he lacks a bit of strength and defensive lucidity to be a true box-to-box, Thomas Lemar remains extremely versatile and omnipresent on the field. In addition, with the ball at his feet, the Frenchman is really efficient and fluid, thanks to good dribbling stats and an ideal physique. Finally, his outer line of the foot is a treat, allowing him to be a threat on distance shots.

Recommended Style: Architect or Shadow

Ryan Gravenberch WW, Bayern Munich, Bundesliga

Gravenberch WW is a rather strange card, which had the potential to be one of the best box-to-box midfielders in FIFA 23, but whose stats somewhat limit its use. Indeed on paper, the Dutch player is tall, powerful, complete and even has good traits. However, its average/medium yield, lack of aggressiveness and defensive stats make it a bit tricky to use. So we are of course on a map formatted to be a box-to-box but its defensive effectiveness is often questioned.

Recommended Style: Ombre or Pillar

Koke FUT Birthday, Atletico Madrid, La Liga

When Koke FUT Birthday was released, teammate De Paul WW's card was immediately thought of. The Spanish player looks a lot like the Argentinian with overall stats but a few flaws (agility, speed, strength). While Koke FB has two versions, the 4-5 star version is considered better due to its position which will limit the interest of skill moves. Overall a solid card but a bit generic despite the star boost.

Recommended Style: Ombre or Pillar

Jacob Ramsey Future Stars, West Ham, Premier League

Although a little generic, we really enjoyed our games with Jacob Ramsey FS. It must be said that the English player combines a lot of somewhat basic but effective elements: a 3-4 in stars, an average physique in play and a high / high performance. Better, his stats are ideally formatted for a box-to-box, with a perfect combo of speed, agility and physicality. Better, Ramsey is also able to create play with a solid passing level. So, although quite generic, the West Ham player is quite efficient and pleasant to use.

Recommended Style: Ombre or Pillar

Orkun Kokcu TOTS, Feyenoord, Eredivisie

Despite an incredible new season, EA has decided to offer us a rather weak version of Kokçu. The trick player had a super TOTS on FIFA 22 but this year, the boost is much less. However, we find the same qualities with 5 stars of weak foot, good traits and complete stats. Quite small for a box-to-box, Kokçu is in the ubiquitous genre despite an average/medium yield. So it fits a lot of devices but our favorite use is still as an MC going up in a three MC environment. A nice card although a bit generic, limited by a slightly low rating at the start of the TOTS season.

The best attacking midfielders in FIFA 23

The best attacking midfielders in FIFA 23 should have, in our opinion, comprehensive attacking stats. Thus, if mobility is important, the level of the pass is also a key point. Note that some players listed here do not have the MOC or AT position, but must be played in MOC in-game.

Neymar Jr Centurions, PSG, Ligue 1

Generally, we don't like to put a player in two different positions in our rankings, in order to facilitate research. However, it was difficult not to place Neymar Centurions here since the map is positioned in MOC. If the boost compared to the TOTW seems weak at first glance, the gain in shooting and speed is massive since it allows the Brazilian to be used in MOC but also in BU. Indeed, with his unique physique, his personalized animations and his 5-5 in stars, Neymar Jr is a monster in the surface on FIFA 23. However, only a player accustomed to technical gestures will be able to really draw the full potential of this card. which lacks the strength to win without GT in the area.

Recommended Style: Hunter or Eagle Eye

Bernardo Silva TOTS, Man City, Premier League

One of our favorite players on the game this year, Bernardo Silva now has a TOTS. Already extraordinary on his PTG then his FUT Birthday version, now the Man City player gets a new special card, making him one of the best midfielders in FIFA 23. If he loses a star on a weak foot compared to the FUT Birthday (we talk about it below), the Portuguese takes advantage of additional stats to really establish himself as a super choice in MOC. As usual, Bernardo Silva's strength is his ball-to-foot fluidity, which is at the top of the game this year. However, be careful, because Silva TOTS is a pure and hard MOC, lacking top speed and physics to evolve in BU. In addition, the gap with FUT Birthday is relatively limited, especially since the latter's 4-5 stars remain a safe bet.

Jamal Musiala TOTS, Bayern Munich, Bundesliga

Strangely, while we loved our experience with the Future Stars version of Musiala, this TOTS didn't impress us as much. So be careful, we are clearly there on one of the best attacking midfielders in FIFA 23! However, the feeling wasn't as good and it's not really explained, except that since the release of the FS, a lot of great cards have been released, making this TOTS less impressive? In fact, the super youngster from Bayern has an ideal physique in play, 5-4 in stars, excellent attacking traits and an ideal formatting of his stats. Be careful despite everything because his height (1m83) slightly reduces the effectiveness of his physique in play, without making him rigid (99 in agility). On the other hand, his stats allow him to evolve everywhere on the field, from MC which goes up to BU, a real plus which more easily justifies his price.

Jay-Jay Okocha FUT Heroes Fantasy, SĂĽper Lig

Formerly an undesired Icon card by players, Jay-Jay is now a coveted FUT Heroes! After a somewhat limited upgrade between the basic version and the World Cup, this Fantasy is much more important with a double boost. The former PSG player is now much more complete but retains his usual strengths: great fluidity on the ball and excellent attacking AI. However, he remains frustrating at times because of his physical appearance and his somewhat limited finish. In the end, we continue to prefer it in MOC finisher mode or even on the wings.

Recommended Style: Hunter or Eagle Eye

Abedi Pelé FUT Heroes Fantasy, Ligue 1

Already excellent in his basic FUT Heroes version, Pelé is once again one of the best attacking midfielders in FIFA 23 thanks to this Fantasy version. Although playable in ST, we prefer to use it in MOC, a position where its versatility will be better used. Especially since his lack of strength and physical presence are major obstacles to his presence in the box. Note however that despite very good stats, his slightly average physique and his lack of features bother us a little, especially at his current price.

Recommended Style: Lynx Eye

Lionel Messi POTM, PSG, Ligue 1

In the same way as for Neymar Jr TOTW, we hesitated for a long time to place Messi in this category compared to the list of attackers. However, with a main position in MOC and a map that evolves ideally at this position, we concluded that it would be easier to analyze it here. Messi POTM is a version very close to the Gold card: an almost unrivaled fluidity on the game, an excellent finish in the surface as well as from distance and a passing game at the top. In the end, only a few points slow down the map (stamina, strength) but Messi remains ultra Meta on FIFA 23.

Recommended Style: Hunter

Xavi Simons TOTS, PSV, Eredivisie

While we enjoyed every Simons card this year, we couldn't wait to test this TOTS. Receiving an incredible boost to celebrate his excellent season, the young Dutch player is now in the category of the greatest by being one of the very best attacking midfielders in FIFA 23. His main strength lies in his great fluidity, due to a super smooth in-game physics and great agility stats. Also, its small size results in more favorable animations on finesse shots. We just would have liked a 5-4 star or a few more traits to make it an ultra ultra Meta option.

Recommended Style: Lynx Eye

Chuba Akpom TOTS, Middlesbrough, EFL

If you ask yourself the question "who is this player?" Akpom was one of the best strikers of the year in the EFL (the English second division). The Englishman has distinguished himself with 28 goals this season in the league, allowing his club to grab a place in the Top 4. On FIFA, Akpom is very clearly a BU in play, in order to take advantage of his 5 stars on foot low, his excellent finish but above all, his physical power. Like an R9, it combines physics and power to really be an incredible option in the box, especially in this price range. However, be careful because even with Engine, its agility remains a little irregular due to its rather large size. In the end, we have a real BU, with a good offensive AI, but which suffers from its links.

Recommended Style: Engine

Best position: BU

Alejandro Gomez PTG, FC Seville, La Liga

Do you like ultra-fluid ball-to-foot players? Do not search anymore ! If you don't have the budget for a Bernardo Silva or a Messi special card, Alejandro Gomez is your man. With an ideal physique in play and great agility, the Argentinian player is this type of card that will make the difference just on dribbling with sticks. On the other hand, this fluidity is limited by a fairly average finish. Thus, even with Chasseur or Eye of the Lynx, Gomez PTG is a creator MOC more than a finisher, a player who will create spaces but not necessarily finish the action.

Recommended Style: Eagle Eye or Hunter

Kai Havertz Flashback, Chelsea, Premier League

Placing Kai Havertz FB was quite a difficult exercise since we consider the German player to be a much better BU than MOC. It must be said that his size and his physical stats make him a kind of pivot in BU. Better his shooting finish and his offensive traits make Havertz particularly effective from a distance as well as in the box. Therefore, the Chelsea player is really more of a second BU than an MOC, even if it will be possible to develop him in this position. Even if their physics and their game are different, this card still made us think a bit of a Griezmann PTG, who stood out both for his finishing and his passing game in the area and close to it.

Recommended Style: Hunter or Eagle Eye

Best position: BU

Brahim Diaz RTTF, Milan AC, Serie A

We saw it coming! In December we evaluated his WW card citing a lack of stats and that an 88-90 version in overall rating would have made him one of the best attacking midfielders in FIFA 23. We have waited a long time but this card has finally arrived! In RTTF, Diaz is a great all-around MOC, with ideal in-game physicality, 4-5 stars, high/medium output, all of the best offensive traits, and well-formatted stats. Better, his small size gives him a particularly effective animation from a distance, making him a real threat outside the surface. Note that a victory in the semi-finals would give him an additional boost in stats because he already has 5 weak foot stars.

Recommended Style: Hunter or Eagle Eye

Kevin De Bruyne TOTW 3, Man City, Premier League

Last year, we already placed KDB at the top of the best attacking midfielders in FIFA and this edition 23 does not change this analysis. The Belgian player indeed has an ideal performance and physique to evolve in box-to-box but his level of passing, his 5 stars from weak foot and his offensive stats are just too good not to. use in front. With regular upgrades, each TOTW keeps Kevin de Bruyne in the Meta, outside of his special event cards. Note that his TOTY and WW versions are positioned in the Box-to-box part due to a much higher physical level, which really corresponds more to an MC.

Recommended Style: Hunter

Joe Cole FUT Heroes Trophy Titans, Premier League

Joe Cole FUT Heroes TT is simply one of our favorite cards in this price range. Very agile despite some irregularities in his touches of the ball (a correct score in reaction and calm but nothing more), the English player is above all excellent in his shots with finesse. In addition, his defensive stats and his aggressiveness allow him to recover very high balls, a huge plus to counter formations playing counter-attacks. If on paper it looks like many other cards, it is actually a very nice and efficient MOC.

Recommended Style: Lynx Eye

Martin Odegaard TOTS, Arsenal, Premier League

After a solid POTM, now Martin Odegaard wins a well-deserved TOTS in view of his season. However, as often with EA for this type of card, the boost is not incredible. Thus, like his POTM, the Norwegian player has a 5-3 in stars which could potentially have been a 5-4 for the occasion. Worse, the card progresses relatively little compared to a dated POTM, with in particular +0 in reaction. If he remains very agile and fluid thanks in particular to an ideal physique in play, these elements limit his interest at the highest level. On the other hand, its defensive boost helps to make it more versatile, even if we tend to prefer it in pure MOC with Hunter or Eye of the lynx.

Recommended Style: Hunter or Eagle Eye

Dimitri Payet WW, OM, Ligue 1

The cursed card! There is no doubt that you have already met Payet WW, its price and its effectiveness have made it one of the most popular cards on FUT. While we were comparing his Rulebreakers to Fekir, this WW reminds us of Fekir's RTTK card from FIFA 22. Powerful, fast, agile and fearsome in front of goal, the French player is undoubtedly one of the best attacking midfielders in the game. FIFA 23. In addition, its links are very good and it can evolve into MOC as well as BU depending on your device. Note that his TOTS Moments is present in our list of the best attackers.

Recommended Style: Hunter or Engine

Rayan Cherki Future Stars, Lyon, Ligue 1

If you are as crazy as us, you have probably played 300+ matches with its silver versions on FIFA 22 and you were looking forward to playing with this FS! Rayan Cherki is a real offensive Swiss army knife, capable of playing in MOC finisher, on the wings but also in BU. It must be said that with a 5-5 in stars, the outer line of the foot and great striking power, the French player has everything he needs to shine. What is quite unique about Cherki is his combo of size, in-game physics and agility, which makes him quite powerful (like a Fekir) but still agile. However, it is considered that in BU, its lack of strength and reaction will limit its effectiveness, which makes it a much better MOC finisher. Note that if Eye of the lynx makes it a real threat on ranged shots, its regularity will be affected compared to Hunter or Gunner.

Recommended Style: Hunter or Gunner

Giovanni Reyna TOTS Moments, Dortmund, Bundesliga

While Payet TOTS Moments traumatizes defenses, Reyna is much rarer in play. It must be said that the American player is more difficult to tie but above all, a poorer card. The faults are indeed quite numerous with 3 stars of weak foot, an absence of trait, an average/average yield and a large size reducing agility. Thus, Reyna TOTS Moments is not very active at this stage of the game. However, be careful, because the Dortmund player surprised us with his quality of strike as well as his physical commitment. We are therefore not on the card of the year but he is certainly a player who would have been played quite a bit if he had been released a few weeks ago.

Recommended Style: Hunter or Eagle Eye

Harvey Elliot Showdown, Liverpool, Premier League

At the release of this DCE we were very disappointed given the price of the challenge and the formatting of the map's stats. However, after receiving the +2 following Liverpool's 7-0 card against Man United, Elliot proved to be a welcome surprise. With a small and extremely agile physique in play, the England player is a kind of MOC / Player on the wing way Messi or Dybala. Thus, his small size makes his finesse shots very effective while his fluidity and his 5-4 in stars will make him a great offensive option. Note that its average/average yield does not have a big impact in game if your tactics are well prepared.

Recommended Style: Lynx Eye

Phillippe Coutinho Moments, Aston Villa, Premier League

A card that many players won't get a chance to test, Philippe Coutinho Moments is an excellent MOC. Although he is a bit slow and less agile than his stats suggest (due to an average physical in-game), the latter is illustrated by his 5-4 in stars and his good offensive traits. We are therefore on a pure MOC, able to dribble, pass or finish an action. If we would have liked a higher overall rating (for a little more overall stats), Coutinho remains a very good option with excellent links.

Recommended style: Hunter or even Motor (in pure MOC)

Leroy Sané WC Stories, Bayern Munich, Bundesliga

Sané is a strange player on FIFA: his Base version as well as his TOTW are correct but nothing more, mainly limited by his weak foot and a lack of balance. On the other hand, this WC Stories version of Leroy Sané is totally different: the agility is much better (his unique physique becomes rather pleasant), his finish much superior and his speed improved. Thus, the German player turns into one of the best attacking midfielders in FIFA 23 with the Hunter style. Note that in addition, he allows himself to have good secondary positions.

Recommended Style: Hunter

Morgan Gibbs-White Show, Nottingham Forrest, Premier League

Hmm where to start? Gibbs-White's Showdown card is tied to an extremely expensive DCE, which impacts our analysis. Indeed, it is difficult to place a card well if it is only accessible via an overpriced challenge. Here, the price is probably double what we would have liked… In game, the English players are quite irregular, both in terms of their shots and their touchdowns. This is explained by a lack of finish in stats but also by a somewhat average physics in game. If the Hunter style makes it rather correct, the absence of a Meta trait makes it a rather generic card, both in MOC and in BU.

Recommended Style: Hunter

Henrikh Mkhitaryan Showdown, Inter, Serie A

Let's be very clear, Mkhitaryan is the type of card that needs a lot of stats to really shine in the game. playable. With a 4-5 star rating, ideal high/low yield, the three most Meta offensive traits, and solid stats, Mkhitaryan will be more of an MOC finisher or even a BU. If his average physical in-game sometimes limits his fluidity (despite good stats in dribbling), the use of the Engine style allows him to be a much more reactive player. Better, in a BU role (in a formation with two goalscorers), Mkh could even use the Finisher style, which allows him to have the explosive running style.

Recommended Style: BU Finisher/Hunter, Pure MOC Engine

Nabil Fekir TOTY MH, Betis Seville, La Liga

He is not Lengthy, he is not 5-5 in stars and he does not have the most agile physique in the world but Nabil Fekir TOTY MH is without a doubt, one of the best attacking midfielders in FIFA 23 in its price range. Having a rather strong physique, the French player is nevertheless illustrated by an excellent game with the ball on the next-gen, even without Engine or Finisher. Also, his passing level is excellent, as is his shooting, making him an ideal MOC in a formation with two BUs. Note that its RB version is now a bit outdated.

Recommended Style: Hunter or Engine

Marco Reus Centurion, Borussia Dortmund, Bundesliga

Like almost every year, Marco Reus gets a special card around the FUT mid-season, allowing him to become usable. This year, it is via a Centurion version that the German super player that he integrates the MOC Meta. Although he lacks a bit of agility and speed for our taste, Reus' unique physique, attacking traits and ideal output make him a very attractive option. Therefore, it is preferred with the Engine style in game creator but it can also be used with Hunter to be more of a finisher. Note however that we regret the fact of not being able to use it with the explosive racing style.

Recommended Style: Motor or Hunter

Mason Mount FUT Ballers, Chelsea, Premier League

Like a lot of FUT Ballers cards, Mason Mount is a player whose potential is quite high but limited by stats that are too low to really be Meta at this stage of the game. Indeed, with an ideal physique in play (even if his height limits its fluidity a bit) 4-4 stars, good traits and high/high output, Mount is a mix between a MOC and a rising MC. In addition, his ranged shots are quite good and his passing game is excellent, which allows the use of the Engine style to make him a true game-creating MOC. Thus, we are on an interesting option but rather in the optics of links or in a recent formation on FUT.

Recommended Style: Motor or Hunter

Paulo Dybala OTW, AS Roma, Serie A

Although the Argentine veteran has left Juventus, his potential both in game and in real life remains high. His main strength lies in his agility with the ball, which at the start of the season is truly elite. If he is limited in certain situations by his 3 stars of weak foot, Dybala has all the offensive Meta traits (outside of the foot, finesse shot and flair) to shine. Also, his placement on offense is excellent, allowing him to take advantage of spaces to create play. This new boost in the OTW version continues to make him playable without being ultra Meta.

Recommended Style: Hunter or Eagle Eye

Hidetoshi Nakata FUT Heroes World Cup, Serie A

Formerly an icon card, Nakata is now present as FUT Heroes. A good idea in our opinion since it makes it much more desirable in this version, especially since its price is much more accessible at the start of the game. Here the World Cup version is a boost equivalent to a double TOTW, improving its offensive interest. Thus, with an ideal physical in play, 4-4 in stars and the possibility of obtaining the explosive sprint, Nakata could even be used in ST (despite a lack of physical). Therefore, the advantage of this card is to be able to play in MOC creator (with Engine) or in MOC finisher (with Hunter or Finisher).

Recommended Style: Hunter, Engine, or Finisher

Jack Grealish FUT Ballers, Man City, Premier League

How would we have liked to see this card in 4-4 or even 5-4! Jack Grealish FUT Ballers would have a real nice Meta card without that 4-3 in stars. Indeed, the combo of great dribbling stats and unique physique make the Man City player a super fluid ball-to-foot option. However, it's mostly enjoyed in explosive run mode, which limits style usage. Overall with Hunter, Grealish will be very fun to play but particularly frustrating with his lack of consistency due to his weak foot 3 stars.

Recommended Style: Hunter

Mesut Ozil Fin d'une Ere, Basaksehir, SĂĽper Lig

Among the End of an Era cards, we regret a little that of Mesut Ă–zil. Indeed, it does not really respect the career of the German player because of major weaknesses. The former Gunner lacks speed, shot power, physicality and even a bit of agility. However, his unique physique, 5-4 star rating, ten traits, and ideal output make up for this lack of stats to make him a viable option. In the end, the card could have been better formatted especially since you have to think about the links which are not so simple, often limiting the collective to 1 or 2 points.

Recommended Style: Hunter

Phil Foden RTTK, Man City, Premier League

One of the nuggets of the English league, Phil Foden received a great RTTK release, making him one of the best attacking midfielders in FIFA 23. The young Englishman is extremely agile and fluid on the ball, with a pretty good attacking AI in the surface. Also, its speed (via acceleration) is incredible for players who prefer bursts rather than Lengthy's long runs. The only weakness lies in his 4-3 in stars, a point difficult to compensate in MOC. Note that City only got one boost from Foden, a small disappointment.

Recommended Style: Hunter

David Silva FlashbackReal SociedadLa Liga

A card we didn't think was interesting when it was released in DCE, David Silva Flashback was a huge surprise. With the new patch improving sprinting styles, the Spanish player becomes very agile and fast over short distances. Thus, with the driving style, Silva is then an excellent passer in a role of MOC creator. Better, his finish in the surface is not that bad with the Hunter style, giving him several strings to his bow.

Recommended Style: Motor or Hunter

Jesper Lindstrom Future Stars, Frankfurt, Bundesliga

Typically the type of cards that a good portion of players send into DCE without ever playing a single match with it, Jesper Lindstorm FS is nevertheless a playable option. Indeed, with an ideal physique in play, 4-4 in stars, finesse shooting and solid stats, the Danish player is a solid MOC. On the other hand, his size (1m82) somewhat limits his fluidity while his reaction is a little low. We are therefore on a correct but very generic map, which will serve objectives more than anything else.

Recommended Style: Lynx Eye

Fabio Carvalho Future Stars, Liverpool, Premier League

Carvalho FS is a fairly generic, flexible card, but it doesn't really stand out in play. Indeed, if on paper the Liverpool player could have been interesting, the card is limited by a somewhat average formatting. Indeed, the lack of firepower is a big problem since it forces you to use an ineffective style (Vista for example) given its position and the rest of its stats. Other than that, Carvalho is flexible and nimble, which will make him a nice card to use despite his limitations. In addition, its links are excellent, which may justify use in inexpensive training.
